Ideas competition: Experience nature without barriers

You represent a nature conservation institution in Germany and are working for more inclusion? Would you like to redesign your services in the direction of accessibility? Until January 30, 2023, privately and publicly funded nature conservation institutions can apply for concrete support for more accessibility in their offerings.

Radolfzell, 23 November 2022: The Global Nature Fund, the German Seminar for Tourism e.V. / Travel for All, National Natural Landscapes e.V. and the consulting office Dr. Kai Pagenkopf invite to the idea competition "Experience nature barrier-free" within the project "Nature without barriers!". All privately and publicly funded nature conservation facilities in Germany that want to open their nature experience offerings to all and reduce communicative and physical barriers can participate. Initially, a total of eight nature conservation facilities throughout Germany can receive funding.

What is needed are your concrete ideas on how and for whom you want to open up your offerings. You can win detailed professional advice and €4,000 to put your idea(s) into practice. The winners will be advised in detail about the possibilities of a barrier-free adaptation of their nature conservation facility and will receive financial support for the implementation of initial measures. All nature conservation facilities that participate in the competition will also receive feedback on the submitted ideas regarding accessibility upon request.

Participation is easy: fill out the online form and share your great ideas and suggestions! The competition starts on November 23, 2022, and the deadline for applications is January 30, 2023.

There are many possibilities: whether it's preparation for certification according to "Travel for All", technical retrofitting of the website, barrier-free information about the facility's nature experience offerings (e.g. short videos in sign language), optimization of existing nature experience offerings through barrier-free design, signage elements or audio guides for circular trails, professional photo shooting for communication, further training for employees or other suggestions - we look forward to your applications!

Background

The topic of barrier-free nature experience in nature conservation and environmental education institutions as well as in public guided tours is still little established. The reasons for this are manifold. One is that so far there is no sufficient training offer for the large educational institutions in environmental education. Accordingly, measures for barrier-free nature experience in many nature conservation facilities in Germany remain rather exceptions. According to the experiences of the last 10 years, the first step is crucial to identify possible adaptations and measures. This first step is to be supported in the project "Nature without barriers!". The project has two main goals: Conceptualization and implementation of accessibility & nature experience in the relevant educational systems in Germany as well as implementation of concrete measures for inclusive nature experience in nature conservation facilities. The project is funded by the German Postcode Lottery and the HAKA Foundation.
