A new publication by the Global Nature Fund presents business ideas that combine the protection of biodiversity in and around protected areas with successful economic activities. The guide for the development of Pro Biodiversity Business was created in the EcoKarst project and presented to interested companies, regional development agencies and civil society at a final conference in Slovenia in June.

The Biodiversity Barometer 2019 by the Union for Ethical BioTrade published today shows that Asian consumers have an increasing awareness of the planet’s biodiversity. They want companies to show more commitment to ethically responsible sourcing.

05/14/201915th Living Lakes Conference: Working together to prevent the destruction of lakes and wetlands
From 7 to 9 May 2019 the 15th International Living Lakes Conference took place in Valencia, Spain. 200 delegates from over 40 countries discussed current challenges and solutions for the protection of lakes and wetlands. In view of the IPBES biodiversity report and the dramatic loss of lakes and wetlands, the participants of the conference called for a rapid and stronger commitment by politics, business and society to the protection of aquatic ecosystems.

Growing pressure on water ecosystems – strong partnership to protect lakes and wetlands
From 7 to 9 May 2019, 200 delegates from over 40 countries will discuss current challenges and solutions for the protection of lakes and wetlands at the 15th International Living Lakes Conference in Valencia, Spain. They call for stronger economic and political measures to protect these unique ecosystems – also in the fight against climate change.

The Jordan, once a mighty river between Jordan, Israel and Palestine, has shrunk to a trickle. Providing local residents with clean water is a daily challenge. With a pilot project, the Global Nature Fund (GNF) and EcoPeace Middle East want to mitigate and improve the water situation in the community of Deir Alla and in the Sharhabil Bin Hassneh EcoPark in Jordan.

The partners of the European LIFE Food & Biodiversity project have published eight Biodiversity Fact Sheets. They show which measures can be used to protect and promote biodiversity in the cultivation of wheat, sugar beet, vegetables, pome fruit, wine and olives, cocoa, livestock and dairy production.
