Vitality Summer 2004

Cleaning and Restoration Project of Villacañas Wetlands (Toledo, Spain)

Since 1999 Unilever Spain has actively supported the restoration of the Villacanas wetlands (Toledo) acting as a socially responsible company investing a part of its profits in social actions.

In June 2004, in the scope of Corporate Social Responsibility policy, in collaboration with GNF, Unilever launched an initiative to involve its employees in the restoration of the Villacanas wetlands.

Between 21 and 23 June 2004 around 100 Unilever staff voluntarily collected waste from the edges of the lagoons, constructed infrastructure, put up "Botanic Reserve" signposts and constructed boundaries for bird watching.

This action was developed by Unilever simultaneously with the start of the "Vitality Summer 2004" campaign involving over 3,500 staff members and 65 NGOs in 28 different cities in Europe alone.
