Natural Climate Protection: Alliance Invites to Lake Symposium 2023

– Lake protection is climate protection: intact water ecosystems in Germany contribute to slowing down global warming
– A conference on lake and wetland protection in early 2023 will provide information on local, national and global perspectives on biodiversity in the context of climate change.
– Interested media representatives and experts are cordially invited to Berlin's bUm - Betterplace Umspannwerk from January 19-20.

Berlin, 13 December 2022: The Lakes Symposium 2023 aims to draw public focus to the valuable habitats of lakes and wetlands and strengthen knowledge of their importance as climate-protecting carbon sinks and diverse biodiversity hotspots. Experts* will present contributions to natural climate change mitigation from the local to the global level.

In the first part of the symposium, research results on climate change and lakes and the Action Program Natural Climate Protection will be presented. The second part of the conference will focus on the implementation of practical projects for the protection of peatlands and lake biodiversity in Germany.

The Lake Symposium is organized by the Living Rivers Foundation in cooperation with the Global Nature Fund, the Living Lakes Network Germany and the GRÜNE LIGA. On January 20, the founding event of Wassernetz Berlin will take place at the same location, with contributions from the Senate Administration, the Berlin House of Representatives, and from the water- and lake-minded civil society.
