Year of the Dolphin 2007 as well as 2008

The UN Convention on Migratory Species has declared 2007 the Year of the Dolphin. In September 2007, an extension of this successful campaign til the year 2008 was decided.

The Global Nature Fund is an official supporter of this initiative to protect dolphins.  A crucial factor in achieving this is education to create awareness of dolphin species, information of decision makers and involvement of local communities. GNF and its local partner RASI particularly focus on the conservation of the Mahakam Wetlands in Indonesia, home of the rare Irrawaddy Dolphin.

In the Mediterranean Sea, the GNF campaign together with the partner organisation GOB the protection of the marine mammals.
