Founded in 2006. the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) is an initiative from the European outdoor industry. Its main objective is the protecting of threatened wild areas, species and habitats world-wide. Currently more than 60 members support this idea. Membership is open to any company operating within the outdoor industry, whether they are a manufacturer, supplier, service provider, retailer, etc.
Since its foundation, the Association has supported and supports nearly 30 projects world-wide. Some examples are
- the establishment of an environmental trail in Nepal,
- clean-up operations on a mountain peak in Kyrgyzstan,
- the protection of brown bears in northern Spain,
- replanting of native “virgin” forest in the Czech Republic.
As awareness of climate change and the damage man is doing to the environment grows, so too increases the importance of the work of the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA).
In July 2010, during OutDoor - The Leading Trade Fair in Friedrichshafen in Germany, GNF´s project Mangrove Swamp Restoration in Sri Lanka was presented. This project was nominated by Messe Friedrichshafen, also a member of the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA).
