Lake Piediluco, located in the south of the province of Umbrien, is similar to an alpine lake because of its cliffy shoreline and steep hillsides. It has a realatively small area of 1.52 sq. km. Despite having three large feeders, the Fuscello River is the only natural one. The other two are man-made canals built in the 1920s for the production of energy.
The shore line is framed by reedbeds, and pastures and poplars are characteristic landscape features of the plains around the lake. The Aleppo Pine (Pinus halepensis) is very common along the steep bluffs. Various species of water fowl can be found around and on the lake, e.g. the dabchick. Kestrel and buzzard breed in the area. The lake also has a rich fish population: tench, pike, eal and red-eye.
