Lake Bolsena (Lago di Bolsena)
The Lago di Bolsena is located in the county of Viterbo, about 90 km north of Rome. The lake is almost circular and has an area of 114 sq. km, which formed approx. 300,000 years ago inside the crater of a volcano. The lake’s only runoff is the river Marta, which ends in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Official regulations prohibited further development of the shoreline during the 1990s, so that access to the lake is near without restrictions. Overall, Lago di Bolsena is a good example for the development and implementation of soft tourism in Italy.
