The project is coordinated by the Global Nature Fund as the main facilitator. The project implementation is realised by the two Sri Lankan Living Lakes Partner Organisations EMACE and Nagenahiru Foundation. They are also responsible for the coordination of all measures at regional level and the contacts to important third parties such as the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Tourism, Department of Coast Conservation, Department of Fisheries, RADA, SLIDA, and others. Additional project partners involved are the Fundación Global Nature from Spain to give technical input and CReNIEO from India.

The Nagenahiru Foundation is a non commercial and non-profit NGO, registered in 1991. Since 2004 it is the partner organisation of the Living Lakes Network at the Lakes Maduganga and Madampe in Sri Lanka.

 

The Nagenahiru Foundation has experience in

  • operating a wetland education centre,
  • managing mangrove nurseries,
  • promoting sustainable livelihoods among disadvantaged sectors of community.

In the EU Post Tsunami Project, the Nagenahiru Foundation is responsible for the local implementation of the different actions.

The EMACE Foundation operates since 1970, it is also a non-profit NGO, approval in 1994. Since 2004, it is the partner organisation of the Living Lakes Network at Lake Bolgoda in Sri Lanka.

 

The EMACE Foundation has experience in

  • renewable energy,
  • composting,
  • recycling,
  • conservation projects,
  • forestry.

The EMACE Foundation is responsible for the local implementation of the project actions within the EU Post Tsunami Project.

The Fundación Global Nature Spain is a non-profit NGO and is the partner organisation in the Living Lakes Network at La Nava in Spain. During two EU LIFE Projects in the years 2002 until 2005 respectively 1999 until 2002, the foundation gained experience in the construction of green filters. This experience should now flow into the planning of model green filters for sewage treatment in Sri Lanka.
