The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) as well as the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) support the Living Lakes Network. The 6th international Living Lakes Conference at Lake Baikal, for instance, was supported through subsidies of the BMU.

The German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) is the central scientific office of Germany in charge of national and international nature protection and landscape conservation. It is also a federal authority in the portfolio of the BMU.

Both offices are committed to protecting and caring for the natural foundations of life and to encourage sustainable development.
