About us

Global Nature Fund is a non-profit, private, independent international foundation for the protection of environment and nature, registered according to § 80 BGB by the Senate Administration for Justice, Berlin.

The headquarters are located in Radolfzell at Lake Constance, Germany. Since 2003, the Global Nature Fund has also an office in Bonn, Germany.

GNF was founded in spring in 1998 with the objective to foster the protection of nature and environment as well as animals. GNF’s work consists mainly of

• Initiating and carrying out of nature/environment protection projects to preserve the animal world, the protection of migrating species, their habitat and their migratory routes.   
• The development of model projects for the promotion of sustainable economy
• Publications and organisation of events dealing with the protection of nature and environment
• Promotion of international conventions on species protection

In 1998 the Living Lakes network has been initiated by the foundation Global Nature Fund, a global network of environmental partnership organisations striving for the protection of lakes and wetlands worldwide.

Distinction as “Official Project of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005 – 2014”

In October 2007, the project “Living Lakes” has received for the second time the distinction as official UN Decade Project for the years 2008 and 2009. The first distinction occured for the years 2006 and 2007.

Flights

The GNF tries to avoid flights if possible. But in the domain of international co-operation, it is consistently required to be personally present. In 2009, the GNF had balanced the flights of all staff members and board of directors by paying for the caused greenhouse gas emissions to myclimate. All flight miles, accumulated over the year and the corresponding CO₂ emissions were taken into account. The money will be invested in climate protection projects, which myclimate selects according to strict criteria.
